The Dining Society
MOPC Dining Society: What's it all about?

Enjoy the occasional dinner out? Desire to support smaller venues? Realize the challenge of finding a purpose for old-fashioned, laid back fellowship that does not surround a book study or sporting event? Join us as we seek out new restaurants monthly, delight our palates, and most importantly, deepen our relationships with one another. We had our first meeting on July 14 where we enjoyed German and Czech-inspired dishes at the Glockenspiel in Saint Paul. In September we went for Italian at Mama's Pizzeria on Rice Street.

We are open to suggestions for future locations, being mindful of rush hour traffic in attempting to keep the venues centrally located. Also, please note that we strive to be budget-conscious and to frequent only moderately-priced restaurants, so don't be put off by the pretentious yet definitive name, 'Dining Society'.

Please see the Chouravongs with questions or to let us know you can attend. We look forward to dining together!

Small Groups
Small groups are a wonderful way for members to know one another better, and a relaxed environment for learning more about a church.  If you're interested in visiting or getting involved in a group, please let us know.

We have groups placed throughout the Twin Cities, in Saint Paul/Eagan, Maplewood/Stillwater, South Minneapolis, and the north metro.  For fall 2008, all four groups will work through a book on prayer by Douglas Kelly called If God Already Knows, Why Pray?    (2d ed., 2005).  Copies of this work are available at church or at group meetings.

In setting up the small group ministry, we have tried to balance structure with flexibility. As a result we have the following outcomes in mind:
•    We encourage small groups to balance general fellowship, mutual support in prayer, and study; but how groups allocate their time to these endeavors is up to the individual groups.
•    We encourage groups to meet regularly, but how many times per month, where, and what days will be up to the individual groups.
•    We encourage each small group ultimately to choose its own course of study, and thus while we recommend some possibilities, you may also bring other books or studies to the session for approval.
•    We encourage groups to keep focused on a study or book for a set period of time (normally a trimester), but the rigor and extent of the study will be determined by the group. (Small groups should meet from September to December, January to April, and May to August.)
•    We encourage group participants to commit to a group for the duration of the study/trimester, but we understand exceptional circumstances may prohibit preparation or attendance.
•    We encourage groups to reflect the demographic diversity of the congregation, but we also see value in geographical proximity. We’ve made some initial recommendations for how the groups can organize this fall.
